Reps Propose 15% Female Recruitment in Security Agencies

On International Women’s Day, the House of Representatives in Nigeria, represented by spokesman Akin Rotimi, announced a push for legislative reform aimed at increasing female recruitment in security agencies, specifically targeting a minimum of 15% representation in the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC). This proposal is part of a broader legislative effort to dismantle barriers to women's participation in national institutions and to strengthen oversight of the implementation of national gender policies.

The initiative is expected to create entry points for women within Nigeria's security architecture and enhance public trust in these institutions. The House's agenda aligns with global campaigns emphasizing the need for investment in women's education, mentorship, and leadership development.

Currently, there are 17 female lawmakers in the House, who continue to play active roles in legislative work.
