Nigeria Signs Contracts for Major Road Projects

On May 13 and 14, 2023, the Federal Government signed memoranda of understanding for eight major road projects across Nigeria, as announced by Engr. David Umahi, the Minister of Works.

This initiative is part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's strategy to modernize Nigeria's road infrastructure and strengthen the economy. The government has already procured the first 123 kilometers of a single carriageway from Calabar to Ebonyi, and plans to develop a 300-kilometer second carriageway from Ndibe Beach to Oweto in Nasarawa State.

Umahi emphasized that these projects would significantly reduce travel time between the southeast and Abuja, boosting economic activity in the region. He also noted that five companies are competing for the projects, with a transparent procurement process in place.

Investors have shown strong interest in the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, which is designed to last for decades. Umahi revealed that investors are willing to toll sections of the highway to recoup their investments.
