IPAC Applauds Court Ruling Restoring ADC and Others

On Tuesday, the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) commended the Court of Appeal for nullifying a Federal High Court ruling that ordered the deregistration of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and four other political parties. IPAC described the appellate court's decision as a courageous reaffirmation of constitutional democracy and the rule of law.

The council's National Publicity Secretary, Egbeola Martins, stated that the verdict restores confidence in the judiciary and reinforces the constitutional guarantees of political participation and freedom of association. Following the appellate court's decision, the ADC called for disciplinary action against Justice Peter Lifu of the Federal High Court, Abuja, whose ruling led to the deregistration.

IPAC urged the National Judicial Council to investigate judicial officers whose decisions contradict constitutional provisions, emphasizing that democracy thrives only when constitutional provisions are respected. The council reiterated the importance of the appellate courts in safeguarding constitutionalism and correcting judicial errors that could undermine democratic institutions.
