Nigeria Customs Service Wins IPRA Golden Award for AI Use

CGC Adeniyi of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) received the IPRA Golden Award, which acknowledges the Service's approach to transparent communication, stakeholder engagement, and ethical public relations in support of its reform initiatives. Adeniyi described the award as international recognition of NCS's reform efforts, which aim to modernize Customs operations, improve trade facilitation, and enhance institutional transparency.

He stated that this recognition would encourage deeper adoption of emerging technologies, especially artificial intelligence, in public communication and stakeholder engagement. By 2027, he hopes the NCS and other Nigerian agencies will be prominent among global award recipients.

Adeniyi highlighted the critical role of effective communication in government reforms, aligning NCS's agenda with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's economic policies to boost Nigeria's trade competitiveness and participation in the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). The IPRA Grand Prix was awarded to Image Merchants Promotion Limited for its campaign on AI for Crisis Communication, developed in collaboration with NITDA and the Centre for Crisis Communication.

Esther Cobbah, President of IPRA, noted the significance of returning to Athens, where the association established its Code of Conduct 60 years ago.
