Iran's Foreign Minister Meets Putin Amid U.S. Stalemate

Abbas Araghchi, Iran's Foreign Minister, arrived in Saint Petersburg, Russia, on Monday to engage in discussions with President Vladimir Putin as diplomatic efforts between Tehran and Washington remain stalled. This visit follows a series of diplomatic activities, including Araghchi's trip to Oman and Islamabad, where he met with Pakistan's military chief Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

The backdrop of these talks includes U.S. President Donald Trump's cancellation of a planned trip to Islamabad, which was part of ongoing efforts to mediate peace talks.

Iran has communicated its red lines regarding nuclear issues and the Strait of Hormuz through intermediaries, although these messages are not part of formal negotiations. The Iranian state media reported that Araghchi's discussions with Putin would focus on ensuring safe transit through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical oil shipping route, amid heightened tensions and economic challenges stemming from U.S. sanctions.
