Ifeanyi Discusses Survival and Financial Motives in Iraq

Ifeanyi, a former Super Eagles midfielder, has shared insights into his decision to move to Iraq, citing survival and financial motivations. He noted that the Iraqi football landscape is becoming increasingly competitive as the country rebuilds its league.

Ifeanyi, who joined a new club in January, admitted that battling against relegation has brought significant scrutiny on foreign players. He recounted his journey through various countries, including Algeria and Uzbekistan, and described his time in Iraq as a second home despite the surrounding tensions, particularly with Iran, the United States, and Israel.

He emphasized that daily life remains largely calm in the area, although uncertainty persists. Ifeanyi warned that players must be mentally strong to navigate the challenges of playing in the Arab league, contrasting his experiences abroad with those in the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL), particularly regarding safety, pay, and better facilities that continue to attract Nigerian players.
