IMN Protests in Nigeria Over Reported Killing of Khamenei

On February 28, 2023, the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) held peaceful protests in Lagos and various northern states, including Kano, Yobe, Gombe, and Bauchi, in response to the reported killing of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei during a U.S.-Israeli airstrike. The protests were coordinated by IMN leadership, with Muftau Zakariya emphasizing the need for peaceful demonstrations to express solidarity with Iran and denounce foreign aggression.

In Kano, protesters gathered at the Central Mosque, lighting candles and distributing water, while in Yobe, hundreds marched in Potiskum, carrying portraits of Khamenei and Iranian flags. Security agencies monitored the protests, which concluded without incidents.

The U.S. government issued a security alert for its citizens in Nigeria due to escalating tensions in the region. IMN leaders urged members to maintain peace and lawfulness during the demonstrations.
