ISWAP Claims Responsibility for Deadly Attacks on Troops

The Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) has claimed responsibility for a series of deadly attacks on Nigerian security forces, as detailed in a viral video release. The attacks reportedly involved coordinated ambushes using roadside explosives targeting military checkpoints, resulting in the deaths of seven soldiers, including one of major rank.

The incident occurred during a patrol in northern Nigeria, where an improvised explosive device detonated, destroying military vehicles and causing significant casualties. ISWAP further accused the troops of retaliatory actions against civilians near Monguno, alleging that homes were burned in response to the attacks.

Additionally, ISWAP claimed responsibility for separate assaults on police personnel and local militias, resulting in multiple fatalities. The group has been active in various operations across Nigeria and the Niger Republic, with claims of 11 attacks within a week, leading to the destruction of 42 vehicles.

Security analysts caution that ISWAP's propaganda often exaggerates their successes and aims to instill fear and boost recruitment.
