ISWAP Claims Responsibility for Attacks on Nigerian Forces

The Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) has publicly claimed responsibility for a series of coordinated attacks against Nigerian security forces and local militias. In a statement released on Thursday, the group detailed operations that involved roadside explosions and ambushes, particularly targeting military patrols in northern Nigeria.

ISWAP alleged that they launched attacks on army positions near the outskirts of towns to lure troops into ambushes. The group also claimed responsibility for attacks on police personnel and local militia, resulting in dozens of fatalities.

Over the course of one week, ISWAP reported conducting 11 attacks that led to the burning of 42 vehicles. Additionally, they accused Nigerian troops of retaliatory actions against civilian communities near Monguno, describing these actions as desperate and uncivilized.

Security analysts have advised caution regarding ISWAP's claims, noting that insurgent groups often exaggerate their operational successes.
