ISWAP Attacks Adamawa Community, Killing 29 People

On Sunday, ISWAP claimed responsibility for a brutal attack on the Guyaku community in Gombi Local Government Area of Adamawa State, Nigeria, resulting in the deaths of at least 29 people. The attack occurred as youths were gathered at a local football pitch, where the insurgents opened fire indiscriminately for several hours.

Witnesses, including residents Philip Agabu and Joshua Usman, described the chaos as insurgents stormed the area, shooting civilians and setting homes and a place of worship ablaze, alongside nearly 100 motorcycles. Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri visited the community on Monday, confirming the death toll and condemning the attack as a cowardly act.

He emphasized that the loss of young lives in such a manner would not go unpunished. The region continues to face significant security threats from ISWAP and its rival Boko Haram, with ongoing military operations aimed at reclaiming territory and restoring peace.
