ISWAP Commanders Clash in Timbuktu Triangle, Casualties Feared

A clash between commanders of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) occurred in the Timbuktu Triangle, leading to several fighters being feared dead. The conflict was reported by counter-terrorism expert Zagazola Makama, who disclosed that the clash stemmed from a dispute involving senior field commanders over operational control.

The disagreement was particularly focused on a commander identified as Abu Ali, who reportedly refused to allow fighters to participate in a planned attack. This decision angered senior commanders, who accused him of deliberately frustrating operations and questioned his loyalty to the group.

The dispute is not isolated, as it reflects a broader rise in tensions among ISWAP commanders, exacerbated by dwindling resources and competition for manpower and supply control. The Timbuktu Triangle remains a principal operational base for ISWAP, serving as a sanctuary, training camp, and logistical hub for attacks across parts of the Lake Chad Basin.
