Delta Community Denies 'Raping Festival' Allegations

Community leaders from Ozoro in Delta State have responded to allegations of a 'raping festival' that surfaced following a viral video showing men harassing women during a celebration. The video depicted a young woman in distress, leading to widespread outrage and condemnation from the Delta State government, which described the incidents as barbaric and unacceptable.

In a statement released on Friday, community leaders, including Berklei Asiafa and Obaro Egwar, clarified that contrary to reports, there were no rapes during the festival, although two young women were harassed. The Delta State Police have arrested four suspects linked to the assaults.

The community leaders emphasized that they are working with security agencies to manage the situation and have initiated an investigation into the events. They expressed their commitment to ensuring safety and addressing any misconduct.
