PDP Supports State Police to Enhance National Security

The People's Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed its support for the establishment of state police in Nigeria, asserting that it will strengthen national security. Speaking on Friday, PDP spokesman Jungudo Haruna highlighted the party's concerns regarding the rise in insecurity and emphasized that political interests should not hinder efforts to decentralize the police system.

Haruna acknowledged fears of political abuse, particularly during election periods, but maintained that a properly structured state police system would empower communities to safeguard their areas and complement national security efforts. He argued that Nigeria could successfully implement a decentralized police model similar to those in other countries, which would enhance public trust.

Haruna urged state leaders to embrace technology in combating insecurity and emphasized that the PDP remains committed to supporting initiatives that will lead to improved security across the nation.
