Saraki Warns PDP Against Missing 2027 Election Ballot

Bukola Saraki, a former Senate President, cautioned that it would be shameful for the People's Democratic Party (PDP) to miss the 2027 general election ballot due to ongoing internal crises. In an interview on Sunday, Saraki discussed the party's reconciliation efforts aimed at ensuring that members have a credible platform to contest future elections.

He expressed concern that the party's actions could lead to its failure to appear on the ballot, which would reflect poorly on its leadership. Saraki described the reconciliation process as challenging, noting that it has faced criticism and numerous attacks.

Despite these challenges, he expressed optimism about the turnout at the party's 2026 national convention, particularly with the presence of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials, which he felt legitimized the process. He urged party leaders to set aside personal differences and focus on electing young leaders, emphasizing that the door remains open for aggrieved members to engage in dialogue.
