Kano Mass Wedding Supports Hearing-Impaired Couples

Muntari Sani-Tofa, a 30-year-old hearing-impaired man from Tofa Local Government Area in Kano State, married his partner Sa’adatu Musa as part of the Kano Government’s ‘Auren Gata’ mass wedding initiative. This program, which aims to assist vulnerable couples, allowed Sani-Tofa to fulfill a dream he thought was unattainable due to financial constraints.

He expressed gratitude to the state government for the opportunity, stating, “This is my first wedding ceremony. I am grateful to the governor for the intervention.” The initiative, which included 1,500 couples, provided each couple with N100,000 for dowries and another N100,000 as seed capital for business.

Additionally, beneficiaries received household items and food to ease their transition into married life. Governor Abba Kabir-Yusuf noted that over N1.5 billion had been committed to the program, which also included medical screenings and marriage counseling.

Yunusa Sani, Leader of the Hearing-Impaired Cluster, praised the inclusion of hearing-impaired individuals in the initiative.
