Itsekiri Group Protests INEC's Proposed Ward Delineation

The Itsekiri Grassroot Coalition, represented by Princ Collin Oritsetimeyin Edema, has expressed strong opposition to the proposed electoral ward delineation by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The group organized a peaceful protest on May 25 at INEC headquarters in Abuja, condemning the actions as an attempt to marginalize the Itsekiri people and distort their historical electoral realities.

They asserted that such proposals threaten peace, unity, and democratic coexistence in the Niger Delta. The coalition demanded an immediate withdrawal of the proposed delineation and a public apology from INEC.

They called for a transparent and credible electoral process that includes critical stakeholders and independent investigations into the alleged attacks on their peaceful protest. The Itsekiri community vowed to resist any form of political exclusion, intimidation, or injustice, emphasizing their commitment to civic engagement and the protection of their ancestral identity and political rights.
