ITUC-Africa Applauds Global Reparations Framework Adoption

ITUC-Africa has hailed the adoption of a landmark global reparations framework during a conference held in Accra, Ghana. Comrade Joel Odigi, the organization's representative, described the framework as a historic milestone in the long struggle for justice and dignity for victims of slavery, colonialism, and apartheid.

The framework consists of 19 points and follows a recent United Nations General Assembly resolution recognizing the transatlantic slave trade as one of the gravest crimes against humanity. Odigi emphasized that the development reflects a growing global recognition of historical injustices that cannot merely be acknowledged but must be addressed through concrete transformative actions.

He noted that the wealth extracted through slavery and colonialism has contributed to entrenched poverty and inequity in African nations. ITUC-Africa supports the framework's call for formal apologies, restitution of cultural heritage, equitable compensation, debt relief, and institutional reform.
