PDP Chairman Turaki Appeals Court Arrest Order

Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, the factional chairman of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), has reacted to an Abuja High Court's order for his arrest, which was issued due to his absence from a scheduled arraignment on Thursday. The order, issued by Justice Peter Kekemek, followed Turaki's failure to appear in court despite being served the necessary legal processes.

Turaki's legal team has filed a notice of appeal and an application to stay the enforcement of the arrest warrant, arguing that his absence was due to a medical emergency involving his principal private secretary, Ibrahim Abdullahi. They also contend that the charges against Turaki, stemming from a case marked FCT HC/CR/647/25, should be quashed and that his physical presence in court is not necessary at this stage.

The case has been adjourned until April 22, 2026, with Turaki expressing a lack of confidence in the handling of the matter by the judiciary.
