Court Issues Bench Warrant for PDP's Turaki in Abuja

On Thursday, a high court in Abuja issued a bench warrant for Turaki, the factional chairman of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), after he failed to appear for arraignment in a criminal case. The case, which involves allegations of providing false information to the police, was initially set for January 28 but was stalled due to Turaki's absence, despite a previous court order requiring his appearance.

Prosecutors urged the court to issue the warrant after Turaki's counsel claimed his absence was due to a sudden hospital visit. Justice U.P.

Kekemek ruled that the petition against the judge did not automatically halt criminal proceedings unless directed by the Chief Judge. Following the warrant's issuance, Turaki's legal team announced plans to appeal, asserting that the case is unrelated to the internal affairs of the PDP.

The matter has been adjourned for further proceedings.
