Iyabo Obasanjo Secures Senate Ticket with PDP Rejoining

Iyabo Obasanjo has clinched the Senate ticket for Ogun Central after rejoining the People's Democratic Party (PDP). She previously represented Ogun Central in the Senate from 2007 to 2011 but lost her re-election bid in 2011 and subsequently left Nigeria for a career in academia in the United States.

In January of this year, she returned to active politics after a 15-year absence, initially joining the All Progressives Congress (APC) and declaring her intention to run for governor on May 31. After losing the governorship ticket, she resigned from the APC and rejoined the PDP.

Iyabo Obasanjo received the PDP flag at a rally in Abeokuta, where she was flanked by the party's governorship candidate Ladi Adebutu and state chairman Abayomi Tella. She pledged her loyalty to the PDP and its manifesto, emphasizing her commitment to serving the people of Ogun State.

Adebutu also promised to ensure the viability of local government areas and manage public funds transparently.
