IYC Urges Support for Tantita's Pipeline Surveillance

The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), represented by spokesman Amb. Binebai Yerin, issued a statement warning against any attempts to disrupt the pipeline surveillance operations managed by Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited (TSSNL).

The IYC urged the federal government to sustain the current security arrangements in the Niger Delta, emphasizing the importance of these measures in combating oil theft and pipeline vandalism. The council called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to resist pressures to alter the pipeline surveillance contract, which they described as an orchestrated campaign by vested interests.

The IYC highlighted the severe economic losses Nigeria faces due to crude oil theft and illegal refining, noting improvements in oil production and reductions in theft attributed to the surveillance contract. They also rejected calls to decentralize the contract, asserting that it does not serve genuine national interests and reaffirmed their confidence in Tantita's leadership, insisting that criticisms do not reflect the views of the Ijaw people.
