UK Visa Fee Increase Affects Nigerians from April 2026

The United Kingdom has announced an increase in visa fees that will take effect on April 8, 2026. This fee hike will impact Nigerians and other foreign nationals seeking to visit, study, work, or settle in the UK.

According to the revised fee schedule released by the UK Home Office, the cost of short-term visit visas will rise from £127 to £135, while student visa applicants will now pay £558 instead of £524. Those seeking permanent residency will face a fee of £3,226, up from £3,029, and applications for British citizenship will increase from £1,605 to £1,709.

Despite the overall fee increases, there is a notable reduction in the registration fee for children of British citizens, which will decrease from £1,214 to £1,000. The changes are expected to significantly impact the high number of Nigerian applicants, who rank among the highest for UK visas annually, necessitating a reassessment of financial preparations for potential migrants.
