UK to Launch Digital Visit Visas for Nigerians in 2026

The United Kingdom has announced that Nigerian applicants for visit visas will begin receiving electronic visas (eVisas) instead of physical visa stickers starting February 25, 2026. This statement was issued on Monday by the UK Visa and Immigration department.

The new digital format will eliminate the need for a vignette sticker affixed to passports, as immigration status will be accessible online through a UK immigration account. This change is part of the UK government's plan to implement a fully digital border system, allowing travelers to manage their visa status electronically.

The agency emphasized that the application process will remain the same, requiring applicants to apply online and attend visa application centers to provide biometric information. Current holders of valid vignette visas will continue to have their documents recognized until expiration without needing further action.

Gill Lever commented that the digital transit travel procedure will enhance security and offer more flexibility for Nigerian travelers.
