Saviola Backs Paredes as Messi's Successor for Argentina

Javier Saviola, a former Argentina international, has expressed his support for Leandro Paredes, identifying him as the ideal candidate to succeed Lionel Messi as captain of the Argentina national football team, La Albiceleste. This comes as Messi's tenure approaches its end, with ongoing speculation regarding his retirement from international football.

Saviola highlighted Paredes' strong personality and capabilities over the past few years, making him a prominent contender for the captaincy. Messi, who has led the team since 2011, has achieved significant success, including winning the 2022 FIFA World Cup and two Copa America titles in 2021 and 2024.

Although Messi continues to serve as captain, his future participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup remains undecided. Paredes, who made his national team debut in 2017, has accumulated 76 appearances and was part of the squad that triumphed in the 2022 World Cup.
