Jigawa Court Awards N500m Compensation to Farmers After Herders' Attacks

The Jigawa State Farmer-Herder Special Court has ruled that nine defendants jointly pay N500 million in compensation to farmers whose farmlands were destroyed in Birnin Kudu Local Government Area. The judgment, delivered by Presiding Judge Barrister Yusuf Rabiu Abubakar, was based on various offenses including destruction of farmland, allowing cattle to stray, and causing bodily harm to farmers.

The court also directed the defendants to pay an additional N500,000 for damages caused to a tractor and motorcycle. The ruling comes after a two-year legal process involving incidents of destruction in forest areas.

Farmers and herders are urged to coexist peacefully under the law.
