Jigawa Judge Retired for Corruption, 80 Staff Promoted

The Jigawa State Judicial Service Commission has sanctioned Judge Muhammad Haruna for corruption, leading to his compulsory retirement. An investigation revealed that Haruna demanded and collected charges for petitions without providing the scheduled court fees, violating the Jigawa Shari’a Court Civil Procedure Rule 2012.

This act of extortion was deemed a gross violation of judicial ethics and an abuse of office. The commission, led by Abdullahi Hamza, emphasized its zero-tolerance policy towards corruption within the judiciary.

In addition to Haruna's retirement, the commission approved the promotion of 80 staff members across various categories to boost morale and reward excellence. Senior appointments were also made, including Aliyu Muhammad as Deputy Chief Registrar and Abdulrashid Alhassan as Deputy Chief Registrar II.

The commission reassured the public of its commitment to sanitizing the judicial system and ensuring that staff perform their duties according to established laws and regulations.
