Jigawa Governor Urges Corps Members on Skills Acquisition

During the formal opening ceremony for the 2,005 newly sworn-in National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members in Jigawa State, Governor Umar Namadi emphasized the importance of skills acquisition and entrepreneurship for self-reliance. The ceremony took place on Friday at the NYSC permanent orientation camp in Fanisau, Dutsin-Ma, where Deputy Governor Aminu Gumel represented him.

The event featured the administration of the oath by Jigawa State Chief Judge Usman Lamin, who reminded the corps members of their responsibilities as ambassadors of their families and institutions. Governor Namadi charged the corps members to maintain discipline throughout their service.

The NYSC program, established by Decree No. 51 in 1973 under General Yakubu Gowon, aims to foster national unity, promote inter-ethnic understanding, and develop a spirit of service among Nigerian graduates, who are required to undergo one year of mandatory national service, beginning with a three-week orientation camp.
