Jigawa State Launches 10-Year Education Improvement Plan

The Jigawa State Government has adopted a 10-year Education Sector Plan developed by the National Institute for Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA) in collaboration with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). The plan aims to improve access to quality education and learning outcomes in the state.

Lawal Yunusa Danzomo, the Commissioner for Universal Basic Education, stated that the plan provides a framework for enhancing enrolment, retention, transition, and completion rates while addressing teacher performance, learning materials, infrastructure, and school security. Danzomo highlighted that the success of the plan relies on effective implementation, monitoring, and evaluation, with specific responsibilities assigned to relevant education agencies.

The state government has made efforts to reduce the number of out-of-school children, successfully reintegrating over 200,000 children into the education system. The number of out-of-school children has decreased from over 700,000 to below 500,000.

Additionally, N1.5 billion has been allocated for school rehabilitation, with contracts worth about N5.3 billion awarded for construction and renovation projects.
