INEC Reports Surge in Voter Registration Figures

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released updated figures indicating a sharp increase in voter registration during the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise. As of February 13, 2026, a total of 1,228,648 eligible citizens have fully completed the registration process in the second phase, marking a significant rise from 884,737 recorded at the end of week five.

Additionally, 673,124 prospective voters initiated the online pre-registration, with 555,524 completing the physical registration at designated centers nationwide. The data highlights a strong turnout among women and young Nigerians, who constitute a major portion of the new registrants.

Jigawa State recorded the highest number of new registrations at 98,698, representing 8.03% of the total, followed by Lagos State with 86,307, Sokoto State with 77,004, and Kano State with 71,990. The exercise is ongoing across the country, except in the Federal Capital Territory, where it is temporarily suspended ahead of the area council elections scheduled for February 21, 2026.
