INEC Registers Over 1.2 Million New Voters in CVR

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced the registration of 1,228,648 new voters during the second phase of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, which is ongoing. This figure represents a significant increase from the 884,737 registrations recorded by the end of week five.

The data, shared on February 13, 2026, indicates that 673,124 applications were initiated online, while 555,524 individuals completed the registration process at physical centers nationwide. Jigawa State recorded the highest number of new registrations with 98,698 voters, accounting for 8.03% of the total.

Lagos State followed with 86,307, Sokoto State with 77,004, and Kano State with 71,990. Gender distribution shows that women accounted for 696,891 registrations (57%), while men accounted for 531,757 (43%).

Young Nigerians aged 18-34 dominated the figures with 848,066 registrations (69.02%). The CVR exercise is currently ongoing across the country, except in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), where registration is suspended in compliance with the Electoral Act ahead of the area council elections scheduled for February 21, 2026.

The CVR phase commenced on January 5, 2026, and is set to run until April 2026.
