Jigawa Residents Back Atiku's Fuel Subsidy Promise

Residents of Jigawa State have expressed support for Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, following his promise to restore fuel subsidy to alleviate economic hardships. This sentiment emerged after Atiku's media chat on August 19, where he criticized the removal of the subsidy, stating it has failed the masses and punished the poor.

President Bola Tinubu responded by condemning Atiku's proposal, labeling it a display of ignorance about governance and economics. This reaction has intensified public frustration, as many residents report severe economic strain since the subsidy removal, with transport and food costs skyrocketing.

Malam Musa, a commercial driver, noted that fuel prices have surged from N195 to over N1,300, making survival difficult. Other residents echoed similar sentiments, highlighting the adverse effects on their businesses and daily lives.

They argue that Tinubu's administration is disconnected from their struggles, with many supporting Atiku's plan to restore the subsidy as a necessary measure for relief.
