Jigawa State Dismisses 22 Vendors Over Ramadan Scam

The Jigawa State Government has dismissed 22 vendor companies participating in the Ramadan iftar program due to allegations of cheating and dishonesty regarding food quality and quantity. This decision, announced by Auwalu Sankara, the Jigawa State Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Special Duties, follows a comprehensive supervisory report that uncovered serious misconduct among vendors after public complaints.

The Ramadan program, which aims to feed vulnerable citizens, targeted 7 to 9 million beneficiaries across 640 free meal centers in the state. The dismissals were attributed to gross misconduct, mismanagement of public funds, and poor handling of the program, including incomplete food packaging and failure to provide quality meals.

The Jigawa State Government, led by Governor Umar Namadi, maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards actions undermining humanitarian efforts and prioritizes the welfare of the people. The dismissed vendors include individuals from various local government areas, including Jahun, Taura, and Hadejia.
