Sule Lamido University Staff to Strike Over Unmet Demands

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at Sule Lamido University, Kafin Hausa, has rejected the Jigawa State Government's latest offer regarding unresolved issues affecting the institution and its academic staff. During its 54th Regular Congress Meeting on September 8, 2026, the union decided to proceed with a planned two-week warning strike starting at midnight on September 15, 2026, unless the government adequately addresses their demands.

The statement, signed by ASUU-SLUK Branch Chairman Comrade Idris Chiromawa and Secretary Comrade Salisu Yunusa, indicated dissatisfaction with the government's proposal, which did not sufficiently address concerns such as the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Management System (IPPMS) and outstanding promotion arrears owed since 2024. The union also called for Sule Lamido University to be exempt from the IPPMS due to its ineffectiveness.

Additionally, the union expressed discontent with the government's stance on the two percent Local Government contribution to the university and urged for sustainable funding alternatives. The union acknowledged the government's intervention in releasing the approved 2024/2025 Earned Academic Allowance.
