Tinubu Meets Security Chiefs After Deadly Jilli Airstrike

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu convened a meeting with security chiefs and the Inspector General of Police at Aso Rock after an airstrike at Jilli Market, located on the border of Borno and Yobe states, reportedly resulted in the deaths of 200 individuals, including civilians. The meeting commenced at 2:30 PM shortly after the President's return to Abuja from a tour of Plateau, Ogun, Lagos, and Bayelsa states.

Attendees included National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, Chief of Defence Staff, Chief of Army Staff, Chief of Air Staff, Director General of the Department of State Services, and Inspector General of Police Olatunji Disu. The airstrike, conducted by the Nigerian Air Force, targeted what was identified as a terrorist location, but Amnesty International condemned the strike, calling for an independent investigation due to the high civilian casualties.

Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum, who had previously closed Jilli Market five years ago due to its alleged use as a logistics hub for insurgents, warned residents against providing support to Boko Haram.
