Tinubu Meets Security Chiefs Amid Rising Attacks

On Thursday, President Bola Tinubu held a nearly two-hour security meeting with service chiefs and Inspector General of Police Tunji Disu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. This meeting marked Disu's first formal engagement with the President since his appointment on February 28, 2026.

The gathering occurred amid heightened security concerns across Nigeria, particularly following recent attacks that resulted in the deaths of at least three military commanders in various operational theaters. Notable incidents included assaults in Borno State, where military positions were targeted, leading to abductions.

During an iftar dinner on March 6, President Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima pledged to deploy overwhelming force to end the insurgency. Tinubu assured that the military administration is committed to defeating terrorism, stating, "Nigeria will defeat terror despite the attacks." The details of the discussions during the closed-door meeting were not disclosed, but it is understood that the focus was on addressing the recent spike in attacks and enhancing coordination among security agencies.
