JOHESU Ends 84-Day Strike After Agreement with Federal Government

The Joint Health Sector Union (JOHESU) has decided to halt its 84-day nationwide industrial action following an emergency meeting with the Federal Government in Abuja. The decision to suspend the strike was made to enable the implementation of terms and settlements agreed upon between JOHESU and the government.

The union had been on strike despite the government's "no work, no pay" policy. The suspension came after a conciliation meeting between JOHESU and the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment.

The union had been pushing for the implementation of adjustments to the Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS) and resolution of welfare-related issues affecting its members. The Federal Ministry of Health had previously directed the enforcement of the "no work, no pay" policy, which JOHESU criticized as a pressure tactic.

Despite the strike, JOHESU maintained that it was within its rights to embark on industrial action as a lawful dispute resolution measure.
