John Utaka Appointed Head Coach Of Women’s Football Club In France

Former footballer John Utaka, 43, has been appointed as the head coach of a women's football club in France. He will share coaching duties with outgoing manager Frédéric Mendy and Baptiste Merle until the end of the season.

Utaka, who has a long history with Montpellier, played a key role in the men's team winning the Ligue 1 title and scoring twice in the final match. He returned to the club in 2020 as a youth team attacking coach and briefly managed the women's side in 2021.

Utaka, who earned his UEFA Licence in 2022, recently served as an assistant coach for the Montpellier men's team. The Montpellier women's team is currently in fifth place in Division 1 Féminine, 11 points behind the top two teams.
