Labour Party Credits Jonathan for 2015 Election Concession

The Labour Party's leadership, represented by National Chairman Senator Nenadi Usman, stated that Nigeria's democracy endured the turmoil following the 2015 general election due to former President Goodluck Jonathan's decision to concede defeat to Muhammadu Buhari. This statement was made on Tuesday in Bauchi State during the 2026 Goodluck Jonathan Foundation Democracy Dialogue, themed “Beyond Elections: Can Political Parties and the Judiciary Save African Democracy?” Usman emphasized that Jonathan's concession, made even before the final results were announced, was a principled act that had never been seen in Nigerian politics before.

She called on politicians aiming for the 2027 elections to prioritize national interest and adhere to democratic principles, warning against divisive rhetoric. Usman also noted that the Labour Party, in collaboration with the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress, is well-positioned for the upcoming elections.
