Obi Critiques Tinubu's Airport Meeting with Victims

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, criticized President Bola Tinubu for choosing to meet the families of victims of violence at Yakubu Gowon Airport in Heipang, Plateau State, instead of at the site of the tragedy. This meeting occurred following a Sunday attack in Anguwan Rukuba, where 27 people were killed and several others injured.

Obi described Tinubu's decision as a failure of compassionate leadership, arguing that true leadership requires a physical presence at the scene of tragedy. He referenced a similar incident in Benue State in June 2025, where Tinubu reportedly did not visit the attack site.

In defense, Tinubu's special adviser, Bayo Onanuga, explained that logistical and security constraints necessitated the airport meeting. Tinubu's visit included discussions with key stakeholders, including state governor Caleb Mutfwang and former governors, while pledging justice and announcing plans to deploy 5,000 surveillance cameras to enhance security.
