Josiah Olu Foundation Awards N20m Scholarships in Rivers

The Josiah Olu Foundation has disbursed N20 million in scholarships to 200 undergraduates of Eleme extraction in Rivers State, providing each beneficiary with N100,000 during a ceremony in Akpajo, Eleme Local Government Area. Dr Josiah Olu, founder and former member of the Rivers State House of Assembly, established the annual scholarship scheme to assist intelligent but financially disadvantaged students.

He shared that his own financial struggles during education inspired this initiative. The foundation selected the beneficiaries from over 500 applications through a transparent process and plans to increase the number of beneficiaries to 300 next year, extending scholarships to junior and senior secondary school students.

Dr Olu also announced plans for a new Econometrics Laboratory at the University of Port Harcourt and highlighted the foundation's ongoing educational support, including assistance for Nigerian Law School students. Prof. Okey Onuchukwu and Felix Nweke commended the initiative, emphasizing the importance of education and potential partnerships for further scholarship interventions.
