Journalist Arraigned for Cybercrime Against Ebonyi Lawmaker in Abuja

Journalist James Alefia, formerly of Asiwaju Media, has been arraigned in Abuja on cybercrime charges against Ebonyi State lawmaker Chinedu Ogah. Alefia and his company, Asiwaju Media Company Limited, are accused of publishing false information against Ogah.

Despite pleading not guilty, Alefia's bail application was not granted, and the trial has been adjourned until January 27, 2026. Alefia remains in custody at the Kuje Correctional Centre.

His defense counsel, Israel Abida, attempted to appeal for bail but was unsuccessful due to the lack of evidence. The case will continue with Alefia's remand until the next trial date.
