Journalists Attacked During Rally for Ebonyi Governor

On Tuesday, during a rally organized by the trader market union to endorse Governor Franci Nwifuru's bid for a second term, journalists faced a brutal attack in Ebonyi. The event took place at the Ngele Oruta Township Stadium in Abakaliki.

A factional dispute among market union leaders led to the assault, with Mr. Polycarp Sola being notably affected.

He was reportedly beaten in the face and nose, and his phone was seized during the incident. Uchenna Inya, a journalist from The Sun, insisted on carrying out her professional duties despite warnings not to record the event.

The attack has raised concerns about the safety of journalists, with calls for improved protection measures for media personnel in the region. The Ebonyi State Government intervened to assist the affected journalists, emphasizing the need to safeguard their rights and ability to report freely.
