Ishielu LG Chairman Denies Involvement in Journalist Assault

Peac Agwu, the chairman of Ishielu Local Government Area in Ebonyi State, has denied allegations linking him to the assault of journalist Benjamin Nwori. Nwori, a correspondent for ThisDay newspaper, reported that three men attacked him at his residence in Ugwuechara, Abakaliki, early in the morning.

During the assault, he was dragged, beaten, and threatened with death, prompting intervention from neighbors to prevent further harm. Nwori expressed concerns about his safety and that of his family, citing previous difficulties related to his reporting on local government activities, which he alleged were obstructed by the council chairman.

He called on colleagues and security agencies to be aware of the threats against him. In response, Agwu challenged Nwori to provide evidence linking him to the attack, asserting that the allegations were false and that he did not send anyone to carry out the assault.
