THISDAY Reporter Attacked by Thugs in Ebonyi State

Benjamin Nwori, a reporter for THISDAY, was assaulted by three suspected thugs allegedly associated with Peac Agwu, the chairman of Ishielu Local Government Area, in Ebonyi State. The attack took place at Nwori's residence in Ugwuechara, Abakaliki, during the early hours of yesterday.

The assailants forcibly entered his home, leading to a confrontation over the removal of bamboo blocking the entrance. Nwori's wife and eight-year-old daughter were present during the attack, which resulted in Nwori sustaining severe injuries, including bruises and threats to his family's safety.

Neighbors intervened to prevent further violence. The state chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Samson Nwafor, condemned the attack, urging security agencies to take swift action against the perpetrators and calling for the Ishielu council chairman to clarify his involvement in the incident.

Nwori has reported the attack to the relevant security agencies for necessary action.
