Lagos SDP Reaffirms Commitment to Abiola's Legacy

The Lagos State chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Femi Olaniyi, issued a statement on Friday titled "Completing Abiola's Unfinished Business," reaffirming the party's commitment to the ideals of Chief MKO Abiola, who was elected president on June 12, 1993. Olaniyi described June 12 as a defining moment in Nigeria's democratic history, highlighting the overwhelming support for Abiola and the hope for justice and a better life that the election represented.

He emphasized that the SDP remains the custodian of the ideals of social justice and equity, insisting that the party's structure and principles have not changed over the years. Olaniyi outlined three key commitments: ensuring credible elections, promoting policies to alleviate poverty and create jobs, and uniting Nigerians to honor Abiola's legacy.

He urged the youth to remain politically engaged, stressing that the sacrifices made during the 1993 elections should not be forgotten.
