Kaduna Governor Grants Clemency to 97 Inmates on June 12

On June 12, 2023, Kaduna State Governor Senator Uba Sani announced the release of 97 inmates from the Kaduna Correctional Centre as part of the Democracy Day celebrations. This act of clemency is in line with the recommendations from the Kaduna State Advisory Council and aims to provide these individuals with a second chance.

Governor Sani emphasized the importance of justice, rehabilitation, and societal reintegration, urging the freed inmates to embrace lawful living. During the ceremony, he also announced cash grants for the beneficiaries to support their enrollment in vocational training institutes located in Soba, Rigachikun, and Samaru Kataf.

The governor highlighted the significance of June 12 as a watershed moment in Nigeria's democratic journey, commemorating the annulled 1993 presidential election won by Moshood Kashimawo Abiola. Sir James Kanyip, the Attorney General, described the clemency exercise as a demonstration of the governor's compassion and commitment to reform-driven leadership.
