ADC to Petition Amnesty International Over El-Rufai's Detention

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has announced its intention to petition Amnesty International over the detention of Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State. El-Rufai has been held by the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) for 30 days without formal charges, which the ADC describes as a violation of fundamental human rights.

In a statement issued by Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC's national public secretary, the party called for El-Rufai's immediate release and arraignment in a competent court. The ADC criticized the current government led by Bola Tinubu, stating that the continued detention of El-Rufai stains the conscience of democracy and poses a danger to the rule of law.

The party emphasized that political participation should not be suppressed and called on Nigerians across party lines to defend constitutional rights. The ADC also highlighted the need for the ICPC to adhere to the law and strengthen public trust in governance.
