Atiku Abubakar Wins ADC Presidential Primary Election

Atiku Abubakar emerged as the presidential candidate for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the 2027 general election after winning the party's primary election held on Wednesday night. He secured 1,855,787 votes, defeating former Minister of Transport Rotimi Amaechi, who garnered 509,397 votes, and former banker Moham Hayatu-Deen, who received 180,903 votes.

The total votes cast in the election were 2,546,457, with the ADC having a total membership of 3,113,599. The results indicate that Atiku won by a wide margin of 1,346,390 votes over Amaechi.

The ADC commenced its presidential primary process on Monday, May 25, 2026, with members across 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory participating. Although three major aspirants reportedly declined to step down for a consensus candidate, the party affirmed that the direct primary method was adopted in line with the Electoral Act of 2026.
