Atiku's Camp Critiques Court Ruling on ADC Deregistration

Atiku Abubakar's camp has condemned a recent judgment by the Federal High Court, which ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to deregister the African Democratic Congress (ADC) along with several other political parties. Paul Ib, a media aide to Atiku, described the ruling as a manifestation of attempts to undermine opposition parties ahead of the 2027 elections.

The court's decision, delivered by Justice Peter Lifu, was said to violate an existing order from a higher court, which had already intervened to halt the deregistration process. The appeal against this ruling is scheduled for October 27, 2026.

The ADC and other parties were found to have failed to meet the mandatory electoral performance threshold required to win seats in the 2023 elections. The ruling has raised concerns about the integrity of Nigeria's democracy and the government's efforts to suppress opposition.
