JUST IN: Benue Assembly Opens Up on Speaker’s Resignation, Speaks on Gov Alia’s Alleged Influence

The Benue State House Assembly clarified the circumstances surrounding Speaker Aondona Dajoh's resignation, stating that it was a personal decision based on principle and not due to pressure from Governor Hyacinth Alia. Dajoh abruptly resigned on a Sunday afternoon, leading to the swift election of Hon Alfred Berger Ermberga as the new Speaker.

The Assembly spokesperson, Elias Audu, emphasized that the legislature operates independently from the governor's influence. Audu described the resignation as a collective decision by the House and highlighted the peaceful transition of power.

However, journalist Ismail Omipidan provided a different perspective, suggesting that Dajoh's resignation may have been linked to the rejection of a nominee for Commissioner, Professor Yangien Ornguga, who is the younger brother of a prominent traditional ruler with close ties to Governor Alia.
